Porter is on a scheduled deployment in the U.S. The Destroyer Force, Atlantic Fleet, was established after the First World War. In addition to SURFLANT's 135 ships, there are special mission and fleet support units that make up the more than 30 commands of the Force. The change in training strategy was intended to bring about 17 percent less time at sea between deployments for most cruisers, destroyers and frigates.
